5 Steps to Preparing for NaNoWriMo

 1.    Prepare

Desk, corner, chair, under the stairs, up in the attic, at your local coffee shop, in the bathroom hiding from your kids - wherever it is, dedicate an area! Before tackling a major writing project, I took a dingy area and transformed it by cleaning and adding a few decorations. I knew I was going to be spending a LOT of time in that area. A little bit of cleaning, organizing and décor later, I was excited to start writing!

2.    Schedule

Block out time on your schedule: mornings, evenings, lunch break, etc.

3.   Commit

Set a writing goal,  and stick to it. (If you mess up a day, don't beat yourself up, just get back on track the next day.)

4.    Do

No, excuses. Sometimes the most inconvenient times in our life are when we need to step forward in faith and let God work. For me, it was pretty much a horrible, bad, no good time to write - and yet God showed himself strong. I'm so glad a took the journey! What is your story? I'd love to hear!

5.     Enjoy!

The year I participated in NaNoWriMo was amazing! I didn't really even have a story outline,  but when I sat down at the computer, the words flowed and the story came together. (I'm not sure I recommend that, since LOTS of editing and time later, the story is definitely better. However, if I had fretted about outlining the story rather than just telling it, well, it might never have been written. Do what works for you!

Now, I just have to decide if I should tackle it again this year AND launch Deadly Puzzle (because that's not crazy or anything) or I should just focus on sharing Deadly Puzzle - my last NaNoWriMo project? Hmmm...... decisions, decisions. FYI I'm leaning toward crazy.  So I better go get my desk in ship shape and look at my calendar!

Enjoy the adventure!
